Sometimes I make really voodooistic projects. Rope gate, CCTV on tower crane, fibre optic and wireless data network in the middle of nowhere, aircon for mobile workshop, connection of scattered sites in one usable network, remote control for gate without any native automation and so on.
It may be not very effective, not easy to support and repair, even not very reliable, but at least it solves the problem and does not cost $10000s as heavy industrial solution.
